SUMMARY:Have your say – Professional and respectful treatment for social housing residents
DESCRIPTION:The government is currently consulting on its proposals to introduce a new\, regulatory standard relating to the competence and conduct of social housing staff. This standard will require senior managers and executives to have\, or be working towards\, a relevant qualification. It will ensure that staff have up-to-date skills\, knowledge and experience\, and that they exhibit the right behaviours to deliver a high quality\, professional service and treat residents with respect \nWe know this topic is important to our residents so we plan to feed in a response on behalf of Four Million Homes. \nA speaker from the Department of Levelling Up\, Housing and Communities will give an overview of the proposals in the consultation and answer questions and then we will go through the consultation and gather responses from participants. \n

SUMMARY:Have your say - timescales for repairs
DESCRIPTION:On 9th January the government released the Awaab’s Law consultation.  This proposes introducing new strict time limits for social housing providers to force them to take swift action in addressing dangerous hazards such as damp and mould. \nIt proposes new legal requirements for social landlords to investigate hazards within 14 days\, start fixing them within a further 7 days\, and make emergency repairs within 24 hours. Landlords who fail can be taken to court where they may be ordered to pay compensation for tenants.    Landlords will be expected to keep clear records to improve transparency for tenants – showing every attempt is made to comply with the new timescales so they can no longer delay to rectify people’s homes. \nSarah Dicker\, Head of Decency Standards at the Department of Levelling Up\, Housing and Communities will give an overview of the consultation and the government context. We will then facilitate a discussion around the consultation questions\, and feed in a response on behalf of Four Million Homes.

SUMMARY:Energy efficiency and net zero
DESCRIPTION:This session will cover what landlords should be doing and what residents can be doing to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and work towards the net zero target. \nWe’ll outline where the government is at in terms of its plans around minimum energy efficiency standards in the social housing sector in England. We’ll have a range of speakers who will talk about the work that they are doing around energy efficiency\, how’s it going\, and what they’ve learnt. After the presentations\, there will be time for questions and we’ll host a conversation where people can share thoughts and experiences\, outline where and how they feel able to have an influence\, how important it is to them\, and what they feel would best work for them\, their neighbours and their communities. We’ll also signpost to some useful resources for residents or groups who want to learn more. \nOur speakers are: \nAnna Spencer – Housing Delivery Manager for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority where she worked with a consortium of Registered Providers on a large programme of retrofit and energy efficiency works as part of the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund first wave of funding. \nPaul Parsons – Vice-Chair of the Dartford Tenants & Leaseholders Forum\, a panel member for both the Housing Ombudsman and Regulator for Social Housing and on the Four Million Homes resident sounding board. \nStephen Mackenzie – an involved tenant on retrofit/energy efficiency\, who has contributed to numerous projects and reports in this area; Homes and Environment champion for Yorkshire Housing and a member of the Northern Housing Coalition Climate Change Jury. \n
