SUMMARY:How to get people involved
DESCRIPTION:Part of a series of monthly webinars to help social housing residents understand their rights\, how to stand up for them\, and how to get better treatment and services from landlords.\n“Nobody seems bothered”\, “we only get a few people coming along to meetings”… \nOne of the things that often comes up in Four Million Homes sessions is to how to get other people involved: whether it’s about finding out and organising around a shared issue you’re facing with your landlord\, or about engaging more people in your resident group or association. \nRyan Shelswell\, Customer Voice Lead from Cobalt Housing in Liverpool\, alongside involved tenants Leah Stevens and Julie Hoyle\, will deliver a presentation on how Cobalt Housing approach tenant involvement; both formally and informally at a neighbourhood level. \nPaul Kelly\, CCH Associate\, will deliver a talk around the CCH Active Engagement strategy and how to explore different routes to engage tenants and how to measure success. \nAs always\, there’ll be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and for discussion. \nSession is open to all social housing residents. SUMMARY:Have your say - timescales for repairs
DESCRIPTION:On 9th January the government released the Awaab’s Law consultation.  This proposes introducing new strict time limits for social housing providers to force them to take swift action in addressing dangerous hazards such as damp and mould. \nIt proposes new legal requirements for social landlords to investigate hazards within 14 days\, start fixing them within a further 7 days\, and make emergency repairs within 24 hours. Landlords who fail can be taken to court where they may be ordered to pay compensation for tenants.    Landlords will be expected to keep clear records to improve transparency for tenants – showing every attempt is made to comply with the new timescales so they can no longer delay to rectify people’s homes. \nSarah Dicker\, Head of Decency Standards at the Department of Levelling Up\, Housing and Communities will give an overview of the consultation and the government context. We will then facilitate a discussion around the consultation questions\, and feed in a response on behalf of Four Million Homes.

SUMMARY:Energy efficiency and net zero
DESCRIPTION:This session will cover what landlords should be doing and what residents can be doing to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and work towards the net zero target. \nWe’ll outline where the government is at in terms of its plans around minimum energy efficiency standards in the social housing sector in England. We’ll have a range of speakers who will talk about the work that they are doing around energy efficiency\, how’s it going\, and what they’ve learnt. After the presentations\, there will be time for questions and we’ll host a conversation where people can share thoughts and experiences\, outline where and how they feel able to have an influence\, how important it is to them\, and what they feel would best work for them\, their neighbours and their communities. We’ll also signpost to some useful resources for residents or groups who want to learn more. \nOur speakers are: \nAnna Spencer – Housing Delivery Manager for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority where she worked with a consortium of Registered Providers on a large programme of retrofit and energy efficiency works as part of the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund first wave of funding. \nPaul Parsons – Vice-Chair of the Dartford Tenants & Leaseholders Forum\, a panel member for both the Housing Ombudsman and Regulator for Social Housing and on the Four Million Homes resident sounding board. \nStephen Mackenzie – an involved tenant on retrofit/energy efficiency\, who has contributed to numerous projects and reports in this area; Homes and Environment champion for Yorkshire Housing and a member of the Northern Housing Coalition Climate Change Jury. \n

SUMMARY:Neighbourhood management
DESCRIPTION:Neighbourhood management is about keeping the neighbourhood and communal areas around residents’ homes clean and safe. Landlords should work in partnership with tenants and other providers and public bodies in order to do this. \nThis webinar will feature Anne Power from the London School of Economics giving an overview of what neighbourhood management is\, what it can achieve (giving real life examples) and why its so important. Andrea Baker from Poplar HARCA in East London will then share the approach that they are taking\, their deliberate choice to stay local and to create places and homes that demonstrate what happens when agencies work together\, as well as how residents can be involved in this strategic vision. \nAs always there will be plenty of opportunity for discussion\, questions and for participants to share their own experiences.
