SUMMARY:Tenant rent and service charges
DESCRIPTION:Rent and service charges affect every household\, but they are not always easy to understand or challenge. At this time of year many tenants receive letters about changes to their rent or other charges\, so this session will help you understand your rights and what those changes should look like in practice. \nWe’ll explain how social housing rents are set\, including the rules and limits landlords must follow\, what they are allowed to charge for\, and what information you have a right to see. We’ll also look at recent government announcements on rent convergence\, which allow some landlords to gradually bring rents closer to the level set by the national rent formula. We’ll explain what this could mean for tenants in practice\, and how increases must still stay within national rent caps and regulatory standards. \nWe’ll cover what your landlord is responsible for\, how changes should be explained\, and the main routes you can use if you think a charge is wrong or unfair\, including complaints and formal challenges. We’ll also look at the support landlords should provide if tenants are struggling to pay their rent — such as early contact\, clear information\, support with benefits and budgeting\, and working with tenants to agree manageable repayment plans. \nWe’ll also discuss what tenants can do if they are worried about paying their rent\, including contacting their landlord early\, checking benefit entitlement\, and seeking independent advice\, as early conversations and the right support can help prevent arrears from escalating. \nThe session will include examples drawn from tenants’ real experiences — and\, where possible\, contributions from tenants and practitioners sharing what has worked in practice. We’ll look at what good practice looks like when charges are clear\, transparent and well-managed\, and when tenants are properly involved. The session will be practical\, grounded in rights\, and include time for questions and discussion. \nThis session is open to all social housing residents\, although the content will focus primarily on tenants. Closed captions will be enabled. \nPlease note that to receive the link to join the session\, as well as all relevant documents\, you need to “Book a place” using the link below. Just adding it to your calendar is not enough.

SUMMARY:Repairs
DESCRIPTION:Repairs are one of the biggest sources of dissatisfaction for social housing tenants\, making up nearly half of all complaints taken to the Housing Ombudsman last year.\n\nThis webinar will focus on your rights around repairs in social housing. We’ll look at what your landlord is legally responsible for\, what “reasonable timescales” really mean\, and how new rules like Awaab’s Law are changing expectations around serious hazards such as damp and mould. We’ll also talk about what you can do when repairs don’t happen as they should\, including complaints\, escalation and where to get support.\n\nAlongside the rights and rules\, we’ll hear from speakers who will share examples of good practice — showing what works when repairs are done well\, when tenants are listened to\, and when landlords get it right. The session will be practical\, rights-focused and grounded in real experiences\, with time for questions and discussion. Session is open to all social housing residents. Closed captions will be enabled.\n\nPlease note that to receive the link to join the session\, as well as all relevant documents\, you need to “Book a place” using the link below. SUMMARY:Access to information: your rights under STAIRS
DESCRIPTION:The new Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRS) will give social housing residents stronger rights to request information from their landlord — similar to Freedom of Information. Although these duties are not yet in force\, the government has confirmed they will be introduced\, and we want to make sure residents are informed early. \nJoin us for a one-hour introduction to what STAIRS is\, what it aims to change\, and how it could strengthen transparency\, accountability and your ability to challenge decisions. \nIn this session we’ll cover:\n– What STAIRS is and why it’s being introduced\n– The types of information residents will be able to request\n– How it is expected to work in practice once implemented\n– What landlords’ responsibilities will be\n– How these rights could support complaints\, scrutiny and resident-led challenge\n– What residents can do now to prepare \nA straightforward\, accessible session to help you understand this important upcoming right and what it could mean for you. \nThere’ll be plenty of opportunity for discussion and for your questions. Session is open to all social housing residents. Closed captions will be enabled. \nPlease note that to receive the link to join the session\, as well as all relevant documents\, you need to “Book a place” using the link below.

SUMMARY:Adaptations for disability\, ageing\, and health
DESCRIPTION:Part of a series of monthly webinars to help social housing residents understand their rights\, how to stand up for them\, and how to get better treatment and services from landlords. \n\nSocial housing landlords must clearly communicate to tenants and relevant organisations how they will assist tenants seeking housing adaptations and must co-operate with tenants\, appropriate local authority departments and other relevant organisations so that a housing adaptations service is available to tenants where appropriate. \nFor residents with different health conditions or disabilities\, there are often various different options\, based on what’s needed. This webinar will look at what happens if you need some help\, where you should start\, what some of the options and challenges might be and how the system could or should work better. \nWe’ll be joined by Paul Smith\, who’s the CEO of Foundations UK\, the national body for Disabled Facilities Grants and Home Improvement Agencies in England. There’ll be plenty of opportunity for discussion and your questions. \nSession open to all social housing residents. Closed captions will be enabled.
